Chicago’s Wrigley Field Crowd in Summer 1929

This is a great old photo of the crowd at Wrigley Field in Chicago, watching the Cubs play on July 27th, 1929. Just three months later, the stock market would crash, sending the United States into the Great Depression. It was a Saturday and they played a doubleheader that day against the Philadelphia Phillies, winning the first game 6 to 1 and the second game 10 to 7. Go Cubbies!

The Cubs were in the World Series that year (shocking), but lost to the Philadelphia Athletics four games to one. Click on the image for a larger version.

You might also find this an interesting bit of history trivia. On that same day, the Geneva Convention was signed to codify international agreement on the treatment of prisoners of war.
