Don’t Spit in Detroit: A Photo from the 1890s

We are really loving the old photos that we find from Detroit. Check out this photo from the 1890s that shows a sign that reads 'Please do not spit on the sidewalk.' Make sure you check out what we've dug up so far!

You read that correctly. Don’t spit in Detroit, in 1897. This photo shows part of the city from the end of the 1890s. We’re trying to find a much higher resolution version of this so we can read the sign.

Circa 1897. “Post Office, Detroit.” Sign on utility pole: “Please do not spit on the sidewalk.” 8×10 glass negative, Detroit Publishing Co.
