Take a look and see. This is the view from the top of the Washington Monument in 1912 prior to construction commencing in 1914. The Lincoln Memorial would be dedicated a dozen years after this photograph was taken and Abraham Lincoln’s son, Robert Todd Lincoln, would be in attendance.

Potomac Park looking West prior to beginning construction of the Lincoln Memorial, Washington, D.C. c1912 The Lincoln Memorial was built at the West (far) end of the Park by the Potomac River and the Reflecting Pool built in front of it. Ground was broken for the Memorial on February 12, 1914 and it was formally dedicated twelve years later on Memorial Day, May 30, 1922.
